Select connection type

To apply for a new meter, there must already be a connection to the electricity network available at the property. Look for the green dome - these are usually located just inside the property boundary.

There are two meter connection types to apply for:

  1. Temporary power supply
For your builder to have power on site while they complete building works.
  2. Permanent power supply
Once building works are complete, this will be the permanent meter used to bill the household or business owner for electricity.

How much could it cost?

Description Fee
Permanent power supply (single phase or three phase meter) $1,011.00
Temporary supply connection (single phase or three phase meter) $1,011.00

All prices are correct as at 1 July 2025, include GST (except where noted otherwise), and are subject to change at any time.

If the  property or land has never had a power supply connected, you'll first need to request a  new connection.

A service pillar (green dome) will be installed so you can then install a meter and connect power to the property.

The cost of your upgrade will depend on the size, type, and location of the connection - see table below. We'll provide you with a quote once we've reviewed your requirements.

Within 5 business days of receiving a complete application, we'll issue a design fee invoice (for connections between 30kVA and 1 MVA).

You may need the Developers authorisation and design information package - to provide network information to developers to assist with their planning. This fee is a fixed fee regardless of the size of the development works.

The design fee will be deducted from the formal quote if you proceed with the project but is otherwise non-refundable.

There is no charge if the size of your connection is less than 30kVA.

An underground power supply is mandatory for all new connections and upgrades.

  • Running an underground cable from the pole in the street to your property is known as a pole-to-pillar connection.
  • This involves a pillar connected to our network and installed inside your property, close to the side and front boundaries.

You need to organise an electrical contractor to install a mains cable from the pillar to your meter box to complete your connection.
