Upgrade or modify power supply

When your energy needs change, your electricity supply might need to be updated or upgraded.

You may need to increase the size of your existing supply to manage the extra load if you're planning to:

  • expand your business; or
  • add new appliances or workshop equipment.

How much could it cost?

The cost of your upgrade will depend on the size, type, and location of the connection. We'll provide you with a quote once we've reviewed your requirements.

Within 5 business days of receiving a complete application, we'll issue a design fee invoice (for connections between 30kVA and 1 MVA).

The design fee will be deducted from the formal quote if you proceed with the project but is otherwise non-refundable. 

There is no charge if the size of your connection is less than 30kVA.

CT (Current Transformer) meters are installed on any connections with a load greater than 100 amps.

A CT meter only measures a fraction of the current passing through the connection and a multiplier is applied to this reading to reflect the actual current.

Ready to connect?

Single phase power is used in most new homes and small businesses. Sometimes, you'll need to upgrade to three phase power to run a new air conditioner, oven, appliance or machinery that requires three phase to operate.   

Some three phase upgrades can be performed inside the switchboard by a qualified electrician. Speak to your electrician about the work you need and how much it will cost.

Once you've found an electrician to do the work, they need to complete and submit a  Preliminary completion notice which will notify us of the work being carried out. 

Relocating electrical assets

If you need to relocate distribution equipment such as transformers, pillars and overhead lines - you’ll need to include a site plan with your application. 

Any relocation is subject to a suitable alternative location for the asset - and charges will apply. Once we process your application, we’ll provide you with a quote for the work required.

Modifying electrical assets

You'll need to get approval from us to attach either either decorative works (such as banners) or CCTV cameras to our Horizon Power assets. This is in line with the Third Party Attachments Policy.

For large connections, you can submit a preliminary enquiry and discuss your requirements before submitting a complete application.

Assessment and fees

Within 5 business days
Of receiving a complete application, we'll issue a design fee invoice (if applicable).

This will be deducted from the formal quote if you proceed with the project, but is otherwise non-refundable.

Design and quote

Within 30 business days.
After receiving receiving payment for the design fee (If applicable).

We'll then issue you a design and formal quote for the connection works.

Commence installation works

Allow up to 12 weeks
Following receipt of payment for connection works.

The timeframe to complete the work will vary and is dependent on the connection requirements.

If you need to cancel or modify your application

Sometimes circumstances change. Reach out to your local Horizon Power office to discuss your options.

We'ill review your request and determine next steps:

  • If the change is minor - we can continue the project. We'll invoice you for any extra materials, design work, and remobilisation costs.
  • If the change is major - we may need to cancel the project. You will then need to submit a new application with your updated requirements.

We'll need to charge you for costs (time and materials) incurred up to cancellation.

If construction has already begun, we'll refund the difference from your access offer, minus any costs incurred.
