Connect solar, battery and Electric Vehicles
Everything a solar installer needs to know to apply to connect a renewable energy system to the Horizon Power network.
Apply to connect...
Rooftop solar & battery
New or existing behind-the-meter systems, from 1KW to 1MW and everything in between. All new connections will need to join Community Wave.
Electrical Vehicle chargers
An EV Connect application is required to install any EV charger greater than 2.4kW
Large scale renewables
If you're planning on connecting something else like a solar or wind farm, our engineers will help determine the appropriate specifications.
Community Wave is our Virtual Power Plant (VPP)
Which helps customers get more value out of their solar and battery energy systems.
It connects their system to the local network, and balances the supply and demand of electricity across the whole community.
This means fewer outages and more access to solar energy for everyone.
All connections will be energy managed
We call this Smart Connect Solar & Battery
Connected via a Secure Gateway Device (SGD) to adjust solar energy generation during the day, when network stability is at risk.
In return, eligible Community Wave customers receive buyback rates for sending excess solar energy back to the network.
You will need to install a compatible inverter or battery, and the SGD (provided by us).
What you need to know
WA Residential Battery Scheme
Plenti has been appointed by the Western Australian Government as the administrator of the WA Residential Battery Scheme. Vendors must be accredited to participate. Download the accreditation guide or apply.
Inverters
For Basic EG connections, only select inverter makes and models are initially compatible with the SGD (supplied by us). This list will continue to grow as more inverters become compatible.
Training
To install Smart Connect Solar, you'll need to complete our new Solar Accreditation Australia (CPD113) micro-accreditation.
Technical requirements, schedules & assessments
The Basic Micro EG Connection Technical Requirements or Low Voltage EG Connection Technical Requirements specify the minimum technical requirements for customers connecting renewable energy to our networks.
Important to know:
You can't proceed with any installation until you've received approval from Horizon Power in writing.
